On behalf of the New Zealand Geotechnical Society, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 15th Australia and New Zealand Conference on Geomechanics, to be held in Christchurch, New Zealand, in April 2028. Our theme, “Our Ground, Our Identity: Dynamic Evolution for a Resilient Future,” reflects the unique relationship between the ground beneath us, the communities we serve, and the profession we continue to shape together. It recognises that while Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand share many common challenges, each nation contributes distinct perspectives, experiences, landscapes, and cultural heritage that enrich and strengthen our profession. The conference aims to bring together practitioners, researchers, asset owners, contractors, educators, and industry leaders from across the region and around the world to explore how the community of geoprofessionals continues to evolve in response to increasingly complex societal, environmental, and infrastructure challenges. Through innovation, collaboration, and the integration of emerging technologies and practices, we are advancing our understanding of the ground while preserving and enhancing the unique identity of geotechnical engineering and engineering geology practice in our region. Affiliated with the leading international sister societies, the Conference will provide a platform for the exchange of ideas, research, and lessons learned from projects around the globe. By connecting local knowledge with international expertise, we aim to foster meaningful discussions that advance our profession and support the delivery of resilient, sustainable, and adaptive infrastructure for future generations. The conference identity symbolises these connections: our shared ground, our diverse cultures, and the dynamic exchange of knowledge across communities, disciplines, and borders. Together, these elements create a strong foundation for innovation and resilience. We invite you to join us in shaping our future through technical excellence, regional connection, and international collaboration. Whether as a delegate, author, sponsor, exhibitor, or industry partner, your contribution will help make the 2028 Conference a memorable and influential event for our profession. We look forward to welcoming you to Christchurch in 2028.
